Emergency Food Pantry

The Jonnycake Center's Emergency Food Pantry provides food to individuals and families primarily from Narragansett and South Kingstown who are having a hard time making ends meet.  The Jonnycake Center has a simple registration process for all clients.  As soon as they are registered, clients are issued a client identification card that gives them access to all Jonnycake Center services.  Clients are asked to provide verification for each household member applying for our services.  Since we are an Emergency Food Pantry, we also assist clients with registering for Food Stamp assistance so as to ensure that they receive as much help as possible each month.  Clients can come to the Center every thirty days and receive nutritionally balanced food baskets that contain enough food to prepare three meals a day for a week for all household members.  

Clients who have registered with the Food Pantry are also eligible for clothing assistance from our store.  Clients are issued special cards of monetary value every six months.  Cards are issued for each member of the household when clients register with the Food Pantry.  Clients can then shop in the Store at any time they need.  The clothing allotment card is simply given to the Store clerk at the time of purchase, and the monetary value of the purchase for each shopping trip is deducted from the card until its full value is spent.  Please note that specially marked items cannot be purchased with the cards, and sale prices do not apply.

Household Items

If deemed appropriate by staff, the Jonnycake Center will provide clients with household items from its retail store to meet emergency needs.  Check with our Client Services Manager for more information.

Thanksgiving Dinner

All registered Food Pantry clients from South Kingstown and Narragansett are eligible to receive Thanksgiving Dinner food baskets that provide a turkey with all the trimmings for all household members.  Information about signing up for this program will be posted in the Food Pantry in the fall.  You must sign up in advance in order to receive your Thanksgiving basket.

DECEMBER Holiday FOOD

Clients will be able to add additional holiday food items to their monthly food baskets when they visit the food pantry in December.

School Vacation Meal Programs

Holiday GIFTS
Children and elders who are regular clients throughout the year are eligible to sign up through the Food Pantry for holiday gifts.  These clients must be registered with the Jonnycake Center in order to participate.  Clients can sign up for these programs in the Food Pantry when they sign up for their Thanksgiving or December holiday food baskets.   

Neighborhood Pantry Express

Throughout summer months the Jonnycake Center serves as a satellite location for this Rhode Island Community Food Bank program that makes fresh fruits and vegetables available each week in a farmer?s market setting.   Program runs July-October, every Tuesday.

Special Programs

The Jonnycake Center runs other special programs for clients throughout each year, including cooking classes.  Remember to check for notices when you visit the Food Pantry.  We also have a bulletin board that is updated weekly with employment opportunities, available housing, and information about community resources and events.
