Primarily serving the communities of South Kingstown and Narragansett, the mission of the Jonnycake Center of Peace Dale is to improve the quality of life for individuals and families by providing comprehensive assistance to those in need of food, clothing, and household items and through individual and systemic advocacy for our clients.
First and foremost, we are an Emergency Food Pantry. But we also run a Retail “Thrift” Store. The Food Pantry and Store work together in many ways. We have an “intake” area where we accept donations for both the Pantry and the Store. Revenue from the Store supports the operation of the Pantry, while also providing free clothing and household items to clients. Our clients range from infants to senior citizens and most are low-income, unemployed, disabled, and/or working poor. Due to the rising cost of housing, utilities, and fuel, the number of working poor has increased in recent years, and the current economic crisis has resulted in a rise in newly unemployed households seeking our assistance for the first time.
Why We Can't Accept All Donations
We would like to thank the community for your generous donations of clothing and household items to the Jonnycake Center of Peace Dale. We appreciate your support!
We are sorry that we cannot accept all donations that are brought to us. Our storage space is very limited, so we must limit the quantity of donations we accept. Otherwise we create an unsafe work environment.
Please do not leave items outside our intake area on non-donation days or when we are closed. If we do not have space for the items or if they get rained on, they must be disposed of. This is unfortunate, because they are items that could be used by someone in need and the disposal of such items places a significant financial burden on the Center.
If we are not able to accept your donations, we invite you to support other reputable organizations like Habitat for Humanity, Big Brothers Big Sisters, or the Salvation Army, by donating to them instead.
Again, thank you for your generous support… and for making a difference in the lives of others!
